Meet the Team: Brenda, Professional Services Team Lead

Implementing new transport management system software shouldn’t feel like a leap into the unknown, yet many logistics businesses dread the transition from their current operations to modern solutions.

The difference between a smooth implementation and a costly nightmare often comes down to having a team that truly understands both the technical requirements and the human side of change management.

At Infocomm, we have built our professional services team around this principle, and leading that effort is Brenda Eland, whose unique blend of business ownership experience and technical expertise ensures every implementation becomes a partnership rather than just a project.

Brenda Eland

From Dance Floor to Tech Leadership

Brenda’s journey to leading our professional services team combines competitive excellence with the ability to make good decisions. As a professional ballroom dancer, she achieved #2 ranking in Australia and #1 in Victoria. But her real business skills emerged through running a dance school for over 20 years.

“I did all my own books, all my own admin, so I was a Jack of all trades and an expert at dancing”, Brenda explains. Her business success earned recognition when she won franchise of the year in 2017, achieving a 33% increase in turnover in a single year.

Throughout those years, Brenda maintained her technical career. “I actually started my work life as a programmer. I have an IT degree and always worked full-time whilst running my business after hours and at weekends.” This combination of technical expertise and real world business ownership creates the perfect foundation for understanding client needs in logistics software implementation.

Leading Implementation and Ongoing Support

As team lead of our professional services division, Brenda oversees the critical bridge between our transport management system capabilities and our clients’ operational realities. “We run projects, so we have implementations happening pretty much all the time,” she explains. “We are onboarding new customers, and we have consultants going through business requirements and helping identify if they need any modifications because we tailor the system to their business.”

The relationship extends far beyond go-live. “Once projects become clients, we are still the people that they talk to. We handle all their day to day support needs, such as questions, issues and training. We never lose that contact with the customer.”

This continuous vendor support model reflects our understanding that successful Transport Software and 3PL Warehouse Management System implementations require ongoing partnership as business needs evolve.

Success Stories and Learning from Challenges

When asked about standout projects, Brenda highlights our SeaRoad collaboration. “It was big and successful and just ran really smoothly,” she notes. “They were wonderful to deal with as they had their champions for each area of the business.”

Not every project runs smoothly, though, and Brenda is honest about lessons learned from challenging implementations. One transport project saw “the customer moving the goal posts.โ€ She says, โ€œWe started with ‘it’s going to be just a straight implementation, we love the software, we don’t need any modifications’ to ‘we really want some modifications,’ and then those modifications, once delivered, would actually change.”

These experiences transformed our approach. “The way we now approach an implementation and manage the customer has absolutely changed,” she explains. “We recommend that sometimes less changes equals more. They often donโ€™t need all the extra modifications they had in their legacy system due to its shortcomings, which can take up time and end up being redundant. Implementing it as it is designed before looking at what changes might be required quite often turns out to be the most efficient, fastest and most stress free way of doing it.โ€

Customer Centric Innovation for a Transport Management System

Brenda’s excitement about our latest innovations centres on client benefits. Speaking about our new web portal built on modern technology, she focuses on the ripple effect: “If we can give our client a good product thatโ€™s robust, fast, and attractive, then they can pass that on to their customers. Their customers become empowered and with transparency on what our client is up to with their orders which makes the customer happy and that’s what is exciting for me: Not only making our client happy but seeing their customers being thrilled with the service they are receiving.”

Her leadership philosophy reflects this client focus too. “My goal is to make everyone awesome,” she states. “I want every member of my team to be doing the role that suits them best and that plays to their strengths. Happy people do good work.”

For professionals aspiring to similar roles, Brenda mentions the importance of perspective taking. “I think the most important thing is being able to look at it from the client’s point of view and understanding that sometimes they are possibly frustrated or they don’t know how to say what they want. We are customer facing and we have got to make sure the clients are happy.”
